Regarding all hot beverages:

Aside from actual ingredients a major factor in the kashrus of any hot beverage is the ingredients that come in contact with the stores equipment. At this time heavy cream and half & half are the only questionable ingredients. In all regions that we have researched the heavy cream and half & half were kosher. These regions include the NY-NJ Metropolitian area, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Georgia. In any other area it is advisable to confirm that they are kosher. In kiosks, or stores found in other businesses (ie: airports, supermarkets, rest areas, etc.) it is always necessary to confirm that they are kosher, even in the regions we have researched. Please note that as long as these two products do not contain diglycerides, they are kosher even without a kosher symbol.

Espresso & Chocolate

Espresso beverages are made with some or all of the following ingredients: espresso, a milk product, and flavorings. Most beverages can be made non-dairy by replacing regular milk with soy milk. The Signature hot cocoa is the only exception, since the cocoa is also dairy. Beverages that are always non-dairy are marked with an asterisk.Recommended beverages are kosher, both hot and iced.

Syrups

Starbucks offers a variety of syrups that can be added to any kosher beverage. They are usually in tall round pump containers near the espresso machine. Both the regular and sugar free versions of the following flavors are OU certified.

Caramel * Melon Orange crème
Toffee Nut Almond Hazelnut
Vanilla Juicy Raspberry Valencia
Cinnamon Dolce Cinnamon Peppermint
Mocha Classic

* The Caramel syrup is kosher. This should not be confused with caramel sauce used in the macchiato and as a drizzle topping, which is not kosher.

Toppings

Starbucks tops many beverages with whipped cream, drizzles, and spices, unless otherwise requested.A recommended beverage may be served with a non-kosher topping. It’s important to note that even when a syrup is on the kosher list, the same flavor may not be kosher as a topping. This is because it may be made from a different concentrate. For example, caramel flavor syrup is kosher, but caramel sauce used for the drizzle (and in a Caramel Macchiato) is not kosher.
